What is a Non-Surgical Facelift?

Once upon a time, a facelift was a complicated, extremely invasive, and painful, procedure that included incisions, stitches, and required a long period of recovery. Facial surgery techniques evolved and soon facelifts became a little bit less of an ordeal, though surgery was still involved. Thanks to today’s technology, non-surgical facelifts are now available, and the results are amazing.

Non-surgical facelifts, also called thread lifts, target one of the most troublesome signs of aging: sagging skin. You know, that loose skin that creates jowls, fallen cheeks, and the like. Until now the only way to get rid of these tell-tale signs of aging was to go under the knife for a surgical facelift. But times have changed and non-surgical facelifts are now offered to rejuvenate, tighten, and smooth aging skin.

At Medweight, Lasers & Wellness Centers we offer a full array of surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures to restore your vitality and confidence. Dr. Allan Wu makes your health and well-being a priority. He and his team, including aesthetician Shonda Chase, FNP, take great pride in helping you achieve your aesthetic and health goals.

Medweight, Lasers & Wellness Centers serves patients in and around the area of Irvine, California. We offer cutting-edge procedures that give you outstanding results, with little-to-no downtime. We’re proud to include, among our many services, state-of-the-art non-surgical facelifts.

A facelift without surgery

The non-invasive thread lift is an FDA-approved, updated approach of an older technology that first appeared in the 1990s. The procedure, which can be done in about an hour, uses sutures made from an absorbable polymer, the “threads” in thread lifts.

The threads are inserted into the skin and Dr. Wu manipulates them to lift and tighten problem areas such as your cheeks, jowls, lip area, and neck. The sutures have minuscule cones attached to them and they are inserted under the skin to assist Dr. Wu in tightening the face so as to appear completely natural. The result is a taut and smooth appearance and a rejuvenated you.

One of the many benefits of the non-surgical facelift is the boost of collagen that is a result. Because of the inflammation underneath your skin, your body goes into healing mode, producing collagen and elastin in order to repair damaged tissue by replacing it with new tissue. Not only is your face taut and lifted, but your skin is much smoother, more supple, and younger in texture.

Advantages of a non-surgical facelift

Obviously, the biggest advantage of the non-surgical facelift is the minimal recovery time. Surgical facelifts involve anesthesia, which requires observation post-surgery, in order to rule out complications. Surgical procedures also require a few days or more of bed rest, promoting healthy healing, and ensuring the success of the procedure and the recovery.

Your non-surgical facelift typically requires only local anesthesia, can be performed in a clinic setting, and no special post-procedure observation is required. Also, your non-surgical facelift is far less painful. You can expect to be sore, and perhaps have a bit of redness and some swelling. The need for pain medication is rare, and you can usually resume your normal activities right away.

Complications are rare, given the non-invasiveness of the procedure. There’s no scarring, bruising, or bleeding as with surgical procedures. And, perhaps one of the better advantages of the non-surgical facelift is its affordability. The thread lift is much kinder to your bank account than traditional surgical facelifts.
