Can Laser Hair Removal Eliminate My Need to Ever Shave or Wax Again?

Can Laser Hair Removal Eliminate My Need to Ever Shave or Wax Again?

If you’re sick of shaving, waxing, tweezing, and using other methods to get rid of unwanted body or facial hair, laser hair removal could be the answer. This technology sends laser energy into the targeted hair follicles. The energy then heats the follicles and destroys them without harming the surrounding skin.

But, if you’re like many of our clients at MedWeight, Lasers & Wellness Centers in Irvine, California, you’re probably wondering if this cutting-edge aesthetic treatment really gets rid of hair for good.

Our experienced providers understand your concern, and we’re here to answer this and other commonly asked questions about laser hair removal. Keep reading to learn what you need to know about this treatment and whether it’s right for you.

Will hair grow back after laser hair removal?

Your hair grows in three stages: growth, transition, and rest/shedding. Laser hair removal works by targeting and deactivating your hair follicles when they’re in the growth stage. This stops new hair growth.

However, because all of your hair isn’t in the same phase at the same time, it’s normal to have some hair growth after your first treatment. That’s why our providers recommend getting about 6-8 treatments spaced several weeks apart to make sure all of the hairs in the selected area are treated in the growth stage.

With these treatments complete, most people don’t experience new hair growth. However, changes in your hormone levels can cause hair production to increase.

Even when clients experience some regrowth, the hair is usually much lighter and thinner. In these cases, we can perform a touchup for lasting, permanent results.

Before starting laser hair removal, our team evaluates your health history, skin, and hair. After our evaluation, we’ll let you know if we think laser hair removal can provide long-lasting results for you.

Which areas can I treat?

At MedWeight, Lasers & Wellness Centers, your provider customizes a laser hair removal treatment plan for the areas you want to transform into hair-free zones.

Since laser hair removal targets only your hair follicles, the treatment is generally safe for almost all body parts, including:

If you have other areas you want treated with laser hair removal, talk to your provider. Even patients with sensitive skin have successfully removed hair from almost all areas of the body.

What are laser hair removal treatments like?

Because every patient has different needs and different areas being treated, laser hair removal sessions vary in duration. For example, small areas, such as the upper lip, may only require a minute or two, while large areas, such as the back, may take up to an hour.

The amount of hair you want removed, your skin color, and your hair color can also affect the amount of time needed for your session, as well as how many sessions you’ll need in total.

Everyone has different sensitivity and tolerance levels for pain. While most people say laser hair removal isn’t painful, some people say it stings like a rubber band snapping against the skin.

To make sure you stay comfortable throughout your treatment, the providers at MedWeight, Lasers & Wellness Centers apply a topical anesthetic cream. Your skin might be a little red or inflamed after your treatment, but this usually goes away quickly.
